Medicare open enrollment runs October 15 through December 7, 2026. AmeriDisability’s October 5 article covers the 2027 Part D out-of-pocket cap rising from $2,100 to $2,400, the $700 standard deductible and the $41.33 base beneficiary premium. New this week: CMS projects the average stand-alone Part D premium at $36 (up from $35.09), a different measure from the base beneficiary premium, and the average Medicare Advantage premium at $12.00 (down from $14.37). KFF reports that the average person will have 9 stand-alone Part D plan options, down from 11, and that no $0-premium plans will be available to enrollees without the Low-Income Subsidy; about 4 million people paid no premium in 2026.
Premiums for AARP Medicare Rx Preferred will rise $50 or more per month in every state if enrollees keep that plan. People with disabilities and older adults who take several medications can compare plans using the Medicare Plan Finder, call 1-800-MEDICARE, or get free help from their State Health Insurance Assistance Program.
